Does anyone have the same saw witha good board that will sell for parts or can you help me with the part any way??? Thank you for your question on the electronic radial arm saw. There was a series of these saws made in the 80's and without the model number from the saw I can only give you some general things to check. If as you say it seems to work until you move arm sounds like the encoder wiring has intermittent connections and is sending the control readout wrong information.
Depending on your model you will have encoders up inside the arm for ripping and also on the back column for the miter and one on the motor housing for the bevel setting. You will have to remove the top cover off the arm to get to the wire harness for the miter coming from the back Coolum tube to check there condition. Most of the parts for these old saws are no longer available since the manufacturer is not longer in business. Please let me know what you find.
I've taken the the entire assembly apart. I'm an engineer and what I found was four- 4 pin connectors that connect to the sensors for each function that has a button on the front.
The unit is obviously a throw away and replace part. I had too gently break away the plastic front panel to expose the guts. I can tell you that on the other side of the board is a Large Scale Integrated circuit chip. I got the part number off the chip but no luck finding it. If you did find the chip you'd need to take to a computer repair shop to replace the chip as it takes a special solder machine for that type of chip. I was interested in seeing if I could design a display to show the angles at least but that sensor design is another function to study.
My saw works but it's a pain to set up. I have a magnetic digital read out that I use on my table saw. I may see how that works although i have to pay attention to the basic bevel. Good luck. Thank you for the comments and description on the obsolete circuit board on the radial arm saw.
I am sorry that this replacement part is no longer available for your and many others who have the electronic controls on the radial arm saws.
I believe that it was an innovative and nice feature to have on the saw but as they age out it is hard to get replacement parts since the manufacture of those saws are no longer in business and the parts supply has dried up. I apologize for this event and hope that in the future as you need power tools you will still purchase Craftsman tool.
Just bought a The digital display works, but only for the bevel and elevation modes because I was able to clean the components. I need to remove the digital display. I saw your earlier answer, but don't see a screw under the arm that would hold the display in place. Mission Submitting Content VintageMachinery. Classified Ads Vintage Machinery Store.
